At Hotlink, we take product reliability seriously. Our connectors and splices undergo rigorous mechanical and electrical testing to meet—or exceed—relevant industry standards such as ANSI C119.4, IEC 61284, and more. By partnering with accredited laboratories and consistently verifying performance metrics like tensile strength and heat-cycle stability, we ensure every Hotlink solution delivers the safety, durability, and peace of mind you expect for your overhead conductor applications.

Overview

This report documents mechanical and electrical testing performed by TMC Testing Services (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. on Hotlink’s Automatic Tension Joint Splices (HAS series) for overhead power conductors. Testing followed NEMA CC 3 / ANSI C119.4-2011 standards, which are widely used to confirm performance and safety requirements for full-tension splices in the electric utility industry.

Key Findings

  1. Heat Cycle Test (500 Cycles)

    • Each splice was repeatedly heated to around 100°C above ambient, then cooled, for a total of 500 heat cycles.

    • Temperature measurements showed the splices consistently running cooler or equal to the conductor, indicating excellent heat dissipation.

    • Electrical resistance remained stable well within the standard’s allowable limits, demonstrating consistent conductivity under thermal stress.

  2. Mechanical Tensile Strength

    • Sustained load tests applied 77% of each conductor’s rated breaking strength for 168 hours, with no slippageobserved.

    • Maximum tensile load tests showed no failure in the splice region, meaning the splices reliably held the conductor’s full rated tension.

  3. Corrosion Protection

    • Splices are designed with aluminum alloy and protective coatings that help prevent oxidation and ensure long-term reliability in harsh environments.

  4. Product Range

    • Testing covered multiple splice sizes for various conductor types (#3 ACSR, 1/0 ACSR, 4/0 ACSR, 477 MCM, 636 MCM), confirming the versatility of the HAS series across different overhead line setups.

Conclusion

  • Comprehensive Compliance: The Hotlink HAS series meets or exceeds NEMA CC 3 / ANSI C119.4requirements for both heat cycling and mechanical strength.

  • High Reliability: No failures, no excessive temperature rise, and no resistance issues under demanding conditions.

  • Full-Tension Performance: Each splice demonstrated the ability to hold the full rated conductor tension without slippage or damage, underscoring robust mechanical integrity.

  • Long-Term Service Life: Stable electrical resistance and strong corrosion protection suggest superior longevity, even in challenging environments.

Overall, this third-party test report confirms that Hotlink’s Automatic Tension Joint Splices combine excellent electrical conductivity, consistent mechanical strength, and high-quality construction, ensuring dependable performance and reliability for demanding overhead power line applications.

Key Takeaway

  • Consistent Full-Tension Performance: For each splice model (HAS42, HAS1020, HAS3040, HAS266336, HAS397, HAS477, and HAS636), the achieved tension mostly meets or exceeds 95% of the conductor’s Rated Braking Strength (RBS).

  • Broad Conductor Compatibility: Each splice series supports a range of conductor types and sizes (e.g., ACSR, AAC, AAAC), demonstrating flexibility in real-world overhead line applications.

  • High Reliability Over Various Diameters: Even across different conductor diameters—spanning from about 5.81 mm to 26.20 mm—the data consistently confirm strong mechanical performance and stable grip, showing no signs of slippage or failure below industry thresholds.

  • Safety Margins: Multiple tests exceed 100% of the RBS in tension achieved, underscoring a robust margin of safetyin demanding field conditions.

Industry Standards

We routinely reference internationally recognized standards—like IEC 61284 and ANSI C119.4—to guide our design and testing practices. These documents set strict performance and safety benchmarks, ensuring our splices and connectors meet or exceed industry requirements. By adhering to these standards, we deliver products customers can trust for durability and reliability in demanding overhead line applications.
